May 26th, 2010
The Fairview Park Hospital EVS Team received the hospital's Department Safety Champion of the Year Award for Excellence in Safety Practices. EVS Director Richard Hann and his team were nominated by the Fairview Park Infection Control and Risk Management departments.
"HHS has not only proven its commitment to providing a total clean and patient satisfaction experience, they are also constantly improving their focus on providing a safe work environment for their employees, hospital employees and customers as well," Fairview Park COO & ECO Mike Hoskins says.
"Safety was a concern when I arrived to the account," Hann explains. "We had 3 injuries in less than 6 months."
According to Hann, it took "effective communications," "measures of accountability," and bringing in "the right people for the right job" to turn the department around. Once these steps were taken, "we began to see instant success in all aspects," Hann says.
"These are all systems that have been in place for years," Hann explains. "It's up to the leadership team within HHS to execute the plan effectively in order achieve results."
EVS Team Member Christine Daniels agrees, "Good training, communication with the staff—just the overall process that we have in place provides a safe workplace."
Hoskins says Hann and his team have done an excellent job, and deserve the recognition. "The EVS department leads by example in their dedication to safety," he says, "and the results speak for themselves."
