HHS Gears Up for Hospital Restoration in the Wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita

December 9th, 2005

Several weeks ago, everyone was very much aware of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, and shortly after Hurricane Rita swept ashore with a sigh of relief from weather forecasters. The storm, originally listed as a Category 5, dropped to a Category 3 prior to landfall. However, Rita still left plenty of destruction in its path. Many areas in the Texas Gulf Coast Region sustained flooding and massive structural damage.

Local and Federal response teams have begun their recovery efforts in all the regions affected by these storms, and with citizens now returning from shelters and relative's homes and electricity being restored in many areas, HHS has already sent teams to assist in the clean up of many regional hospitals. Dozens of our staff and floor techs are currently restoring areas with severe water damage and other ancillary damages caused by the storms, in order to ensure the full recovery of these vital facilities.

We have been proud partners with many New Orleans and Texas Gulf Coast Hospitals for years and are proud to play a part in assuring that they will continue to provide healthcare for the region's citizens.

Again, our prayers go out to all of our staff and hospital partners in the areas affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and wish them all the best. If you are a staff member who has been displaced by the storm, please contact Jon Stokes at our offices in Austin for assistance or any questions.
