In September, three well‐known Republican senators visited Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, Florida, to continue the nation's ongoing debate on health care reform. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Outgoing Florida Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.), and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ken.) were welcomed by members of the Palmetto General team, including EVS Director Mariano Vassallo.

“Palmetto currently ranks in the 90^th percentile of PSMS-rated facilities for overall cleanliness,” says Vassallo, adding, “It was such an honor to meet the senators, and to show them the outstanding cleanliness our team has been able to achieve, and maintain, here at Palmetto General.”

The senators had the opportunity to speak privately with various members of the Hospital and Medical Staff, and were taken on a tour of The Heart Institute and Pediatric Unit prior to the open discussion, where various media outlets were present.
