What Is a Peppermint Robot? A Quick Guide [+ Benefits]

Healthcare facilities have struggled to integrate autonomous robots into their environmental services operations because of the complex healthcare environment and high safety requirements.

Peppermint Robotics offers a solution to the healthcare industry: floor care autonomous robots created with healthcare operations in mind. Their robots are smaller, more nimble, more sustainable, and require minimal human supervision as well as minimal training for operators.

What Is Peppermint Robotics?

Peppermint Robotics is a service robotics company that provides floor cleaning and material handling robots for commercial and industrial environments.

Donny Mitchell, President of Peppermint USA, joined the company after a long career with HHS, specializing in operating in healthcare facilities. His experience in healthcare and training housekeeping teams provided key insight into addressing roadblocks to industry adoption.

This insight, plus the focus on creating solutions for customers in every environment, led to the creation of the SD45, a fully autonomous robotic floor scrubber dryer that can operate safely in complex healthcare environments.

Benefits of a Peppermint Robot

Cost-Effective

The robots save up to 66% of manpower, allowing your staff to focus on more complex tasks and to engage more with patients, guests, and hospital staff. Your team will get more done in less time while elevating the patient experience.

Intelligent Navigation and Safety

Peppermint OS powers all Peppermint robots to program customized cleaning routes for your facility. Each robot features a dynamic safety detection system and intelligent sensors to measure distance and look for objects like stairs, walls, and glass doors/windows, ensuring 360° safety.

The machines also operate with a zero-turn radius, making them great for small spaces like patient rooms.

Adaptability

Each robot comes with three different modes of operation (fully autonomous, manual, and remote-controlled by a phone or tablet via Bluetooth) to address the needs of many environments.

Sustainability

All Peppermint robots are powered by Lithium-Ion batteries, with one full charge equaling 8 hours of battery life.

The machines use up to 50% less electricity and water than a typical rider floor scrubber.

Real-Time Reporting and Analytics

The Peppermint Dashboard allows you to manage individual robots and your entire fleet, providing access to real-time data and the ability to solve issues as they arise.

Peppermint Robotics offers 24/7 support, including on-site technician visits if your team can’t resolve an issue.

Easy Install, Training, and Management

Peppermint Robots were created with the operator in mind — universal icons are used to break through any language barriers, and multiple languages are available within the software.

Training is simple: operators need to be able to empty water, refill new water solutions, and bring the robot to a cleaning path’s start point. Then, with a couple of clicks, the robot begins its route.

Even start point indicators were designed for ease of use. Stickers with a number are placed on either a wall or the floor. The operator simply brings the machine to the sticker and enters the number into the machine. The machine will know its location and which path to take.

HHS and Peppermint Robotics

HHS sees autonomous robots as an integral part of the future of floor care. Partnering with Peppermint Robotics allows us to offer our customers the quality and service they expect while navigating staffing concerns, keeping costs low, and ensuring the safety of patients, guests, and staff.

Peppermint Robotics’ focus on innovation and agility matches our drive to exceed expectations. We currently have Peppermint Robots in one of our facilities, with great feedback on implementation and service outcomes. We’re working towards implementing more autonomous robots into our facilities this year across healthcare and our other industry segments.

HHS has grown from one partner to over 750 primarily through reference and word-of-mouth by consistently providing excellent service and innovative solutions to our customers. Our latest solution is TESS, a suite of cutting-edge technology tools to empower facility support service teams.
