HHS Receives A+ on The Humane Society of the United States Protein Sustainability Scorecard

6YtAOSlQHHS is proud to announce that it has received an A+ and ranked second on the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) Protein Sustainability Scorecard. This ranking recognizes the largest food service companies' efforts in offering climate-friendly, plant-based food in their retail operations. The HSUS ranked companies on three metrics: transparency, goals, and execution of action plans.

"We’re honored to receive an A+ and rank second on the Protein Sustainability Scorecard released by the Humane Society of the United States," said Marta Hernandez, HHS vice president of culinary. "Our collaboration with the HSUS to develop innovative and sustainable plant-based menus has been a tremendous success. We are committed to growing our plant-based offerings, reducing our carbon footprint, and meeting our sustainability goals."

HHS worked closely with the HSUS to develop a plant-based concept called Sustainabowls as part of its more extensive Global Bowls menu. This initiative and the company's Meatless Monday program were launched in April 2021 at HHS’ culinary partners throughout the United States. Both plant-based initiatives have resulted in soaring sales and have led to additional plant-based menu and recipe support designed to help HHS achieve its sustainability targets.

As a leader in the support service industry, HHS shows it is possible to create menus with healthy, sustainable plant-based entrees that customers love. In 2022, HHS reported a 21% - 40% rate of plant-based menu offerings.

“In the years we have been working with HHS, they continue to prove their seriousness about sustainable, innovative menu solutions that continue to meet customer demands. HHS is leading the way in the industry, specifically in the healthcare segment. It is exciting to hear testimonials from their culinary team that plant-based dishes are selling out, and the demand is continuing to grow. We are thrilled to continue collaborating with HHS as they work to achieve their plant-based menu goals.” shared Karla Dumas, RDN, vice president of Farm Animal Protection at the HSUS.

HHS has set ambitious goals for the future, including 50% meatless or plant-based retail menu offerings by 2025 and a goal to reduce animal protein purchases by 10% by 2024. To learn more about HHS' commitment to animal welfare, please visit HHS' Animal Welfare Policy
