We're incredibly proud to celebrate the dedication and achievements of Marlin Vilius, Sr., EVS Director at Danville Regional Medical Center. Marlin recently completed his master’s degree in Healthcare Leadership and Management from Southwest University. Marlin’s success is a true inspiration and clearly demonstrates the significant growth and career advancement made possible through the support of our organization and our partnership with Southwest University.
A New Brick in the Foundation
Marlin sees his new degree not just as an academic milestone, but as a strong foundation for a new phase of his career here at HHS.
He views his education as a path to greater leadership: "I’m excited about the possibility of stepping into administrative or larger leadership roles when the time is right."
Marlin is motivated by his passion for helping others, reinforcing the importance of being a servant leader: "Being a servant leader is important to me, and this degree is another solid brick in the foundation of my career."
The Power of Support and Flexibility
Earning a degree while being a full-time employee, a spouse, and a parent to two young children is a huge accomplishment, particularly when balancing demanding schedules. Marlin’s journey highlights the essential support and flexibility available through our university partner, designed to accommodate the lives of working professionals.
Marlin describes his routine clearly: "My routine often involved going to work, coming home to complete assignments, and then sleeping when I could."
Marlin shared that the professors at Southwest University made a huge difference in helping him balance his demanding routine:
- Understanding and Accessible: "The professors were understanding and always accessible—via phone, email, and Microsoft teams."
- Personal Support: "Some were even personable enough to call or text to make sure I felt supported."
Don't Let Anything Stop You
Marlin’s advice for any team member considering advancing their education is direct and incredibly encouraging. His story proves that with determination and the right resources, anyone who is committed can succeed and reshape their future.
His message is simple: "Go for it—don’t hesitate."
"I’ve had learning disabilities since elementary school, so if I can do it, so can you. Don’t let anything or anyone stop you from bettering yourself and achieving your goals."
