Team Member Supports Patients Through Song

SoSo1-1Team member Celso Guevara, who works at a facility in Charleston, South Carolina, has a gift for soothing patients with his kind words as well as through song. In a monthly AIDET training forum at the hospital, he shared his “why” for doing what he does.

Patient Experience Director Teresa Dullaghan said, “As Celso shared his why, he was immediately brought to tears, and brought the entire room to tears, when sharing that bringing comfort, faith, and song to families and patients was his reason for being at [the facility]. He then returned after the session to share a letter that a family member left him over the last week that brought him such great pride.”

Teresa also nominated him for an award for living the facility’s mission.

Following is an excerpt of the letter that Celso received from one of his patients:

“To Our Earth Angel, Celso Guevara,

You brought me hope during our despair. Your songs, faith, and encouragement reminded me to breathe and let God do his work. You are truly a blessing to this world of heartache and joy. You bring sunshine on a very stormy day. Thank you for being God’s earth angel to help his children through troubled times. You truly have a crown waiting for you in heaven. I will never forget you and your songs. I will tell the story of our encounter and our new found friendship. Keep shining. You have a heavenly presence among this troubled world. “Lead me Lord” and “Amazing Grace” will forever be in my heart along with you.

God bless you and your family.”
