Spend Less Time Cleaning

Let’s face it, the last thing anyone wants to do when they come home after a long day at work is clean the house.  But, when the time finally comes around to tackling the dreaded task, it’s helpful to have strategies in place to keep the process as painless as possible.  By utilizing cleaning tips from our HHS housekeeping and operational experts, you will be able to finish your household cleaning in record time.

How can you spend less time cleaning?

  • Create a daily and weekly cleaning schedule, like this one, and post it where you can see it.  While doing your cleaning, keep the detailed checklist on hand.
  • Set goals for the time that it takes to complete each cleaning task and try your best to finish each task within the timeframe you set for yourself.
  • Organize your cleaning supplies and find a designated spot for them that is easily accessible. For example, keep disinfectant, gloves, and a sponge in each bathroom.
  • Keep only the cleaning supplies that you use.  If you don’t use it, get rid of it - the proper way.
  • Clean as you go.  Don’t wait until the end of the day, week, or month to clean up a mess that you just made.
  • Remove distractions while cleaning. Turn off the TV, put down your phone, and make sure you have time to focus on the task at hand.
  • Try adding music to the mix.  Create a fun playlist to help you kick it into high gear.
  • Recruit help from others.  If there are others in your household who are able to help with the cleaning tasks, be sure to get them involved. If certain tasks are harder for you to do, like cleaning ceiling fans, or chandeliers up high, consider hiring outside help.
